Patch Test in Contact Dermatitis of Periorbital Area

Abstract
|
|
|
Authors performed a study of patch test in 47 periorbital contact dermatitis patients and 479 exra-orbital contact dermatitis patients from January 1987 to December 1991 at Department of Dermatology, college of medicine, Chung Ang University. The
periorbital area is one of the most sensitive region in the skin. So that, we studied the characteristics of the contact dermtitis of the periorbital area compared with the extra-orbital contact dermatitis by using of the result of clinical
evaluation
and patch test.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) the ratio of male female in the periorbital contact dermatitis was 1 : 4.2 and that of the extra-orbital contact dermatitis was 1 : 3.8.
2) The third decade was the most common group in the periorbital contact dermatitis (38.3%) and the extra-periorbital contact dermatitis(35.5%).
3) In patients with the periorbital contact dermatitis, the most common job was office worker otherwise that in the extra-periorbital contact dermatitis was housewife.
4) Positive reactions of patch test were noted higher frequency in the periorbital contact dermatitis(57.4%) than that in the extra-periorbital area(46.5%).
5) In the results of patch test, the most common allergen was ammoniated mercury chloride in the periorbital contact dermatitis(20%), that was more higher than that of extra-periorbital contact dermatitis(16.6%).
